Prominent Facebook activist and human rights advocate, Harrison Gwamnishu, has raised alarm over the activities of Udogachi and Agunachemba, two security outfits reportedly set up by the Anambra State Government under the leadership of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
In a strongly worded social media post, Harrison accused the state-backed outfits of detaining individuals in “tiny, inhumane cells” for months without trial, bypassing the Nigerian Police and legal system entirely. He described the operation of private cells by these groups as unconstitutional, likening it to “jungle justice in uniform.”
“Why are we creating state-sponsored detention centers when we already have a police system? Who is overseeing their operations? Who gave them the power to detain without trial?” Harrison questioned.
Sources gathered by NaijaUsers reveal that multiple individuals have been held for extended periods under degrading conditions, with no access to legal counsel or due process. Most alarming is the recent arrest of four popular native doctors by the Agunachemba outfit — with no official charge or court proceedings.
The development has sparked public outcry, with concerned citizens and human rights groups calling on the Anambra State Government to immediately investigate the operations of these outfits and disband any illegal detention structures.
“This is no longer about security; it’s about human rights. We cannot protect the people by violating their rights,” a lawyer from Onitsha told NaijaUsers under anonymity.
As of press time, the Anambra State Government is yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
Public reactions continue to pour in online as Nigerians demand accountability and the restoration of lawful policing in Anambra State.
