The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reaffirmed May 30 as Biafra Heroes Day, rejecting attempts to rebrand the remembrance as “Igbo Day” and confirming a full sit-at-home across the South-East in honor of fallen Biafran heroes.
In a statement issued by IPOB’s spokesperson, the group emphasized that May 30 is sacred to the Biafran people and must not be diluted or politically redefined
IPOB also warned against any commercial or social activities on that day, urging all residents to remain indoors as a mark of solidarity and remembrance. Schools, businesses, markets, and public transport are expected to shut down as part of the observance.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the sit-at-home directive, but previous commemorations have seen mixed reactions, ranging from peaceful compliance to tension in some cities
