Judge Criticizes Kanu’s Lawyer Over Social Media Posts as FG Opposes Livestreaming of Trial

On May 21, 2025, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja expressed strong disapproval of Aloy Ejimakor, a member of Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team, for posting content related to the ongoing trial on social media platforms. The judge labeled such actions as unprofessional and warned that continued misconduct could lead to disciplinary measures, including potential disbarment.

The Federal Government, represented by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, also opposed requests for live streaming the court proceedings. In a letter dated May 14, 2025, Awomolo recommended banning the use of phones in the courtroom to prevent unauthorized recordings and dissemination of misleading information. He specifically criticized Ejimakor for sharing content that could misrepresent the trial’s proceedings and undermine the judicial process.

Kanu’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi, SAN, acknowledged the concerns and apologized on behalf of the defense team, assuring the court that such incidents would not recur.

Justice Omotosho emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism and integrity throughout the trial, urging all parties to refrain from actions that could compromise the case’s fairness and public perception.
