Teenage Critic of Sokoto Governor, Hamdiyya Sharif, Found in Critical Condition After Disappearance

Hamdiyya Sharif, a teenage activist known for her outspoken criticism of Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has been found in critical condition in Zamfara State after being declared missing. Sharif had previously faced legal challenges and threats due to her social media posts condemning the rising insecurity and humanitarian issues in Sokoto State.

Her disappearance had raised concerns among human rights organizations and activists, who feared for her safety given her history of arrests and alleged assaults linked to her activism.  The circumstances surrounding her condition and how she ended up in Zamfara remain unclear, prompting calls for a thorough investigation.

Amnesty International and other advocacy groups have previously condemned the Sokoto State government’s actions against Sharif, labeling them as attempts to silence dissent.  They are now urging authorities to ensure her safety and to hold accountable those responsible for any harm she has suffered.
