Nigeria's defence chief has suggested fencing the country's borders with its four neighbours to curb insecurity, including a 16-year insurgency by Boko Haram and its offshoot ISWAP, armed kidnappings, and communal violence.

Speaking at a security conference in the capital Abuja on Tuesday, the Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa said the move, if implemented, could help tackle the influx of illegal weapons and criminals.
