Story: A 92yr old man has been jailed for life in UK for r/ape and mu/rder he committed in 1967, fifty-eight years ago. — His DNA was recently found all over her blue skirt.
The judge told him “You will never be released, you will die in jail.”
In June of 1967, Ryland Headley broke into a widow’s home, forced himself on her and she died from the struggle.
No one knew who did it, neighbors only heard screams and she was found dead in the morning of June 28th. The case was abandoned due to the tech limitations.
In 1977 he rap/ed two other elderly women aged 79 and 84, in their homes.
He was sentenced to life, but his lawyer pleaded that his actions were because his wife abuses him. His sentence was reduced and he spent only two years in jail.
His case over the rape and murder of Louisa Dunne in 1967 was revisited in 2023. The detectives revisited her apartment and her clothes.
Extracted fingerprints from her apartment, and found DNA samples from the skirt she was wearing that night., which were a 100% match with Ryland. — This was possible because in 2012, he commited a crime and got detained (that’s how they got his data taken.)
Ryland’s defense claimed he didn’t mean to kill her, as she died from asphyxiation as he was covering her mouth. Ryland had no input throughout the case.
Fortunately, after 10hrs of jurying, the presiding Judge, Justice Sweetening announced that, Ryland himself still shows no remorse for his actions and instead of a death sentence like the 60’s, he will serve a minimum of 20yrs in jail, and a life sentence.
The judge also, ecouraged the Somerset police to use his details, to see if they can link him to other unsolved cases.
Ryland will be 93 by September 2025. He was 34 when he committed the crime. The victim was 75 at the time. He went on to ra/pe other older vulnerable women.
