The victim, who was riding home from work on Monday night, was reportedly shot dead for no clear reason. Angry youths carried his body to the gate of the ministry, demanding justice and the arrest of the police officers involved.
A youth leader who spoke during the protest said, “The police from Zion Ministry came to our village and shot our brother. He did nothing. He was innocent.”
The community insists the young man was not a criminal and had no bad record. “We know everyone here. He was one of us. That’s why we all came out,” another protester added.
The protesters want the officers who fired the shot to be identified and punished. They also called for an end to police brutality and killings of innocent people.
A video shared online showed the moment the body was taken to Zion Ministry’s premises. One of the protesters said, “We brought his corpse back to the people who killed him. Let them see what they’ve done. He was only riding his okada.”
Efforts by Naijausers to reach the Imo State Police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, were not successful, as he didn’t pick his calls or respond to messages.
