JAMB Spends Over N500 Million On Servers and Monitoring for UTME Exams

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reportedly spent around N535 million on installing servers and supervising the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This comes amidst growing criticism and controversy surrounding how the exams were conducted this year.

According to financial documents reviewed by SaharaReporters, JAMB allocated over N251 million specifically for setting up and maintaining servers to support the exams. An additional N284 million went toward monitoring and supervising the UTME process.

Despite this large investment, many students and parents have voiced concerns over issues such as poor internet connectivity, technical problems at CBT (computer-based testing) centers, and delays in releasing results. These challenges have raised questions about how effectively the funds were used.

Critics argue that with such a massive budget, JAMB should have ensured a smoother and more transparent exam process. Some even called for a review of the board’s operations and spending practices, pointing out that the problems faced during this year’s UTME show signs of poor planning or mismanagement.

JAMB has yet to respond publicly to the criticisms or provide further clarification on how the funds were used in detail.

The UTME is a key exam for students seeking admission into Nigerian universities, and any flaws in its conduct can affect thousands of young people across the country.
